Dushyant, who is now an experienced rower, gave his all quite literally. The energy sapping dash in the final 500 metres led to him being carried on a stretcher to the medical centre. He was so drained out that he could not stand properly during the medal ceremony. Minutes later he threw up, prompting the doctors to rush him to the medical centre.

The icing on the cake came in the next rowing event with the four-man Indian team of Sawarn Singh/Dattu Bhokanal/Om Prakash/Sukhmeet Singh winning gold, India’s fifth of the Games, in men’s Quadruple Sculls. The awesome-foursome had topped the charts and clocked the best time in the two heats combined. In the final, the four Indian rowers once again produced a sterling effort to finish well ahead of silver medallist Indonesia and bronze winners Thailand.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the winning team. The Prime Minister in his tweet said, “Congratulations to the team of Rohit Kumar and Bhagwan Singh for winning the Bronze in the Men’s Lightweight Doubles Sculls at the asian games. Their stupendous performance has made the entire country extremely happy.”
